From Casa de Salcantay the trails to Choquequirao will be organized. Individual or in groups of maximum 8 people. This can be done by walking or in a combinations of walking and horse-driving.
After the Lunch we go with a private coach to Casa de Salcantay in Cachora where we arrive after a four hours trip approximately. During the trip we can stop to take some pictures and enjoy the first sight on the Salcantay.
During the breakfast our team will fix the baggage on the horses in order to allow us to start our trail. In approximately 2 hours we walk to Capuliyoc that is located at 2.912 meters. Here we will enjoy the beauty of the valley of Apurimac and the snow-capped picks of Padreyoc. We might experience to see the astonishing flight of "Andean Condors". Then we start descending to Chikisca, located in 1.950 meters of the altitude, where we camp.
This is considered the most difficult part of our trip. After breakfast we will descend to the river of Apurimac where we cross the bridge. At that point we are at 1.550 meters above sea-level. In a 5 hours trip we will ascend to Raqaypata. At a branch of the river Apurimac, called Chunchullumayo, we will rest and have our lunch. While we ascend we will see many beautiful native species of the flora and fauna. It will take us two hours to get from Raqaypata to the archaeological complex of Choquequirao where we reach an altitude of 3.035 meters. We make our first visit to the complex in the afternoon where we also have a great view of the ravine of Apurimac.
In the morning we start exploring the incredible complex of Choquequirao with our guide, who will give us a good overview of the ruins. You will also have free time to explore the complex at your own. After the lunch we continue our walk to descend to the Beach of Rosalina, which is at 1.550 meters and near by the impressive river of Apurimac. We will spend the night in Chikisca.
After breakfast once more we will have the occasion of seeing the Condors at the steps of Capuliyoc. From here we descend to Casa de Salcantay at Cachora where we will have a delicious lunch. After the lunch you can choose to stay a little longer to exchange your experiences, or leave to Cuzco. The programme in combination with horse-driving is similar. We use the horses to ascent and sleep at different places. Below we give an outline with the distances and locations where we stay to the road to Choquequirao.
